Education Experience

The following are examples of education-related projects: 

  • Communicating about school finance issues for the Association for Equity in Funding (a group of Wisconsin school officials working to change the state school financing law), including strategizing for testimony before the Wisconsin Supreme Court, handling a statewide media relations campaign, developing trade show displays and printed materials, conducting media spokesperson training sessions, and writing a quarterly newsletter.

  • Working with the Village Partnership (a group of Milwaukee Public School stakeholders representing the teachers’ union, principals, management, lobbyists, and others) to develop a district-wide year-round school plan.

  • Working with MPS on an ad hoc basis on a number of communications issues, including writing brochures and case studies for School-to-Work; writing a brochure on MPS assessments for the Office of Research and Assessment, and writing speeches for the school superintendent.

  • Conducting a half-day workshop on sustainability for members of the Association of School Business Officials of Maryland and the District of Columbia.

  • Attending and presenting at national conferences, including the National Association for Year-Round Education and the Coalition of Essential Schools.

  • Writing published articles on Gifted Education, Computers in Curriculum, Special Education Teacher Retention, and the SAGE Program.

  • Writing case studies on innovative school buildings.

  • Coordinating ENERGY STAR® pep-rallies at elementary schools in New York and Virginia.

  • Appearing as a guest to discuss gifted education on Wisconsin Public Radio.

  • Participating in the 2005 Milwaukee Archdiocesan School Summit, a task force to create a unifying vision for Catholic schools.

  • Lecturing for three semesters in the Mass Communications Department of the University Of Wisconsin - Milwaukee.

  • Volunteering at Hi-Mount Community School to develop a Teacher Peer Evaluation plan that became a model for the district, in addition to traditional classroom help.

  • Developing the “Cultural Connection,” a pilot program that integrates foreign language and culture into elementary school curriculum without the need for an additional teacher.

  • Volunteering at Golda Meir School, St. Sebastian Elementary School and The Wisconsin Center for Gifted Learners in numerous capacities, from planning and budgeting to providing video instruction and traditional classroom help.
