About Barbara M. Haig

Barbara M. Haig is the president of Barbara Haig Communications, a Milwaukee-based consulting firm. The company specializes in helping clients achieve successful communications with targeted audiences. Since 1993, it has provided a wide variety of communications services, from crisis management and public relations to video production and government affairs.

Current clients include Johnson Controls, Alliance for Sustainable Built Environments, American Federation of Musicians, Medical College of Wisconsin, Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra musicians and others. Ms. Haig also works with local advertising and public relations firms on special projects. In addition, she provides media training seminars for individuals and several organizations, including Archdiocese of Milwaukee, Children’s Hospital, Froedtert Hospital, Kohler Corp., Midwest Airlines, Wisconsin Energy Conservation Corp., and other confidential clients.

Her projects have included planning, promoting and executive speechwriting for a major energy forum in Washington D.C.; coordinating media and other logistics for two events featuring President Bush; acting as project manager for a corporate supplier diversity event; producing medical and issue-oriented videos; directing internal and external communications for a corporate government affairs department; providing media relations for an international solar boat race, national conventions, a state Supreme Court decision, and other events; drafting presentations and coaching executives; handling crisis communications during a strike; and writing white papers and free-lance articles on many topics.

Ms. Haig began her career in communications at WTMJ-AM in Milwaukee producing shows, providing voice work, making public appearances and learning the radio business. Her radio career continued in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, where Ms. Haig worked at WUEC-FM, WAXX-FM and WAYY-AM as a news reporter. Then, for more than a decade, Ms. Haig produced and reported at Wisconsin television stations, including WEAU (Eau Claire), WBAY (Green Bay) and WTMJ (Milwaukee). She was responsible for the editorial and visual aspects of a variety of newscasts and was honored by the Milwaukee Press Club and UPI for her work.

After leaving news, she spent three years as a senior account executive at Zeppos-Remsik-Mueller, a leading Milwaukee public relations/government affairs firm, working on accounts such as Miller Brewing, Ameritech and Monsanto, before starting her own business. Ms. Haig's experience working in media and public relations gives her a reputation for being credible, accurate and creative. She knows how the media works, and she has excellent working relationships with national and local print and broadcast reporters. Her communications work has won several awards. She also has been a lecturer in the UW-Milwaukee Department of Mass Communications.

A member of the Milwaukee Press Club and Professional Dimensions, Ms. Haig is active in several community organizations, including the Friends of the Milwaukee Public Library, First Stage Children’s Theater and St. Sebastian Parish. Ms. Haig resides with her husband and two children in Milwaukee's Washington Heights neighborhood.
